I have come to Crosby beach to clear my head.
I’m sat here now and I’m so glad I that I came; the sun has come out just for me and it’s so peaceful here I could cry. It’s such a change from the regular, busy, grimey, central Liverpool.
There’s a Chinese woman running across the sand filming herself and it’s wholesome to watch. I want to join her.
A six-year old black lab named Skye climbs onto my lap and tries to eat my sandwich much to the embarrassment of the owner.
A couple walk past holding hands. The woman remarks, “My grandmother got married at 16 in Gretna Green.”
An older couple walk past, one of them saying, “I forget this is a five mile walk.”
Being here has really calmed me down today. Sometimes I forget the complexities of life and the autonomy of other people. We can’t control how others view us but at least we can try to control how we view ourselves.
Another couple walk past me, this time, alternative-looking. The young man asks his multi-pierced partner, “What if we have 50 years left?”
The girl dismissively replies, “I read this book called The Light Pirate…”
I didn’t hear the rest of what she said, but I’m thinking I might read it.
